Essential Oils and First Aid / Emergency Kit

Helping people in first aid circumstances is serious business and one should know their capabilities as they get involved. Herbal and essential oils have been effectively treating people in these situations since there have been injuries to treat. One should wholeheartedly hone their skills, know how and when to ask for help and to take time to study with knowledgeable persons.

First aid situations have a habit of foisting themselves upon us at unpredictable moments and so you may find yourself involved, no matter what your skill level may be. So seek opportunities to learn this eons-old craft whenever possible. The service of being a calm, sensible, knowledgeable person in often chaotic and painful situations is a gift to offer to our communities.

Every home should have three fully stocked first aid kits: one each in the kitchen, bathroom, and car. In the event of an emergency, having all the items you need close at hand can make a big difference.

Here is a basic list of Young Living essential oils and products we enjoy in our First Aid Kits

  • Trauma Life blend (soothing to emotions after a traumatic experience)
  • Peppermint (helpful for digestion, sore muscles, headache discomfort, alertness, fever, dizziness) (Note: not open wounds)
  • Thieves essential oil blend (antibacterial properties for wound cleaning, airborne bacteria, stings, bites)
  • Lavender (minor wounds, burns, cleansing properties, helps speed wound healing, calming, Poison Ivy/Oak, insomnia)
  • Melrose blend (antimicrobial, antiseptic, nail / foot fungus, cuts, burns, rashes, bruises, inflammation)
  • Lemon (antiseptic properties, purifying water) (do not use on skin exposed to sunlight, photosensitivity)
  • PanAway blend (helpful for sore/achy muscles, headache discomforts, bug bites)
  • R.C. blend (respiratory, staph / MRSA) (use with Raven for more powerful respiratory support)
  • Geranium (w/compress to reduce bleeding, bruising, astringent, inflammation, sinus head discomfort, antispasmodic, skin conditions, circulation, uplifting mood)
  • Palo Santo (sore muscles, insect repellant)
  • Gentle Baby blend (soothing, calming for wee-one's to inhale, stress)

All of the above essential oils can be used topically with a carrier oil (V-6), apply to area of discomfort, on soles of feet for general wellness, inhaled for emotional relief.

See Pets and Essential Oils to learn which oils and products are good for your Pet First Aid Kit.

And, every Natural First Aid Kit should contain these staples:

  • 1 bottle of Young Living V-6 (carrier oil for diluting essential oils)
  • 1 jar of AnimalScents Ointment (yes, it is for people too and is excellent!)
  • Thieves Waterless Hand Sanitizer (a dab can also be used as a deodorant)
  • Thieves Bar Soap
  • Thieves Ultra Toothpaste (a dab can also be used as a deodorant)
  • LavaDerm Spray (skin issues)
  • Thieves Spray (spray for skin wounds, and sanitizing surfaces)

Deep Relief Roll On I recommend Young Living's 2013

My Household Tip

Aromatherapy Air Freshener Recipe

Air fresheners is one of my favorite and super easy recipes... and you will not be exposing yourself and family to toxic air freshener ingredients!

In a 4 oz. spray bottle filled with distilled water, add up to 12 drops of one of these essential oils - Thieves, Purification, Citrus Fresh, or Peppermint essential oil.

Make two spray bottles, keep one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen!

My Recipe

Orange Oil in Shakes or Smoothies Tip

Try adding 2-5 drops of Young Living Orange essential oil in a protein shake or a fruit smoothie.

Additional Tip: a splash (1oz.) of NingXia Red juice (#3003) to shakes and smoothies it's an added boost of antioxidants, not to mention a great taste!

My Pet Tip

Deep Relief Essential Oil RollOn for Dog Back Pain

These two essential oils have helped my dog tremendously when he has experienced back pain - Palo Santo and Deep Relief!

My dog is 85lbs., we use 2-4 drops of Palo Santo massaged onto his spine. Other times we would apply Deep Relief (an essential oil Roll-On) to his spine, this does require two people one applying the roll-on while the other separates the hair so the essential oil can be rolled onto his skin.

My First Aid Tip

Nail Fungus

Super easy way to heal nail fungus: try Young Living's Melrose essential oil blend! Apply 2 drops to the location of the nail fungus. Re-apply two to three times a day until fungus is gone.

My Home Spa Tip

Frankincense Bubble Bath

Mix several drops of Frankincense (#3548) essential oil with Young Living's Bath & Shower Gel Base (#3751) and add to your bath water for a wonderful aromatherapy bubble bath.

Therapeutic-grade Frankincense is an excellent way to support skin health and increase spirituality.

My Skin Care Tip

Aromatherapy Milk Bath

This is an alternative for your classic milk bath, use powdered milk for this rather than whole milk. Use about a half cup of powdered milk, 1/4 cup Sea Salt or Epsom Salt, and 2-4 drops of your favorite Young Living Essential Oil, such as: German Chamomile, Jasmine, Lavender, Rose, Peace & Calming, or Dragon Time for a wonderful relaxing scent.

My Immune System Tip

Aromatherapy Cold and Flu Bath Recipe

Lessen symptoms of cold and flu with this recipe...

You will need:

1 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salt

2 drops Lavender essential oil

2 drops Ravintsara essential oil

2 drops Marjoram essential oil

2 drops Lavender essential oil

In a small bowl, mix salt and essential oils together well. Pour mixture under running bath water, swirl bath water to disperse and dissolve salt. Soak for 20 minutes.

My Kid Tip

LavaDerm Cooling Mist for Bites, Stings and other Boo-boo's

LavaDerm Cooling Mist (spray) is a favorite among parents and children. Use LavaDerm to bring relief to stressed skin with a blend of gentle skin-soothing ingredients including lavender essential oil aloe vera. Spray directly onto the affected area and repeat every 10-15 minutes until desired relief is achieved.

LavaDerm is terrific for: sunburn, itchies, insect bites and stings, minor cuts, scratches and scrapes.
