Favorite Household and First Aid Tips
Avoiding the use of chemicals during household cleaning has many benefits, between creating a healthier space for your family and not contributing pollutants to the environment - essential oils are an excellent option for those seeking a more natural lifestyle.
Helping people in first aid circumstances is serious business and one should know their capabilities as they get involved. One should wholeheartedly hone their skills, know how and when to ask for help and to take time to study with knowledgeable persons.
Using natural essential oil remedies and household cleaning formula's has been practiced for thousands of years by humans - here are some of my favorite tips.
Cedarwood and Clove Oils to Repel Moths
Keep moths out of your closet add a few drops of Young Living Clove essential oil to your cedar wood hanging block in your clothes closets.
Or, take two cotton balls with 5 drops each of Young Living Cedarwood and Clove essential oils, place cotton balls in a small mesh bag, then hang in closet.
Lemon Oil to Preserve Fresh Produce
To clean and increase the shelf life of fresh fruit or veggies, fill a bowl with cool water and 2-3 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil (do not use other brands as they are not safe to use with food). Drop your cleaned fruit into the water and swish around. Be sure all surfaces of the fruit contact the lemon oil water.
Lemon Oil to Disinfect Dishcloth and Socks
Soak your dishcloth or socks, overnight in a bowl of water and a drop or two of Lemon essential oil to disinfect and kill germs.
Aromatherapy Air Freshener Recipe
Making my own air fresheners is one of my favorite to create with my Young Living essential oils... it is so easy to do and you will not be exposing yourself and family to chemical air freshener ingredients!
How to make your own air freshener: In a 4 oz. spray bottle fill 7/8 of the way full with distilled water, add up to 12 drops of one of these essential oils - Thieves, Purification, Citrus Fresh, or Peppermint essential oil.
Make two and keep one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen!
Diffusing to Eliminate Bed Bugs
Diffusing with the YL Essential Oil Diffuser (cold-air / nebulizer type) or with the TheraPro Diffuser is an all-natural way to get rid of those nasty bed bugs.
How to Diffuse to Get Rid Bed Bugs
During the day, while you're at work, turn on and fill your diffuser with Purification essential oil blend using the highest diffusing setting. Allow the diffuser run all day. Do this every day until the bed bugs are gone.
Using your diffuser to get rid of a bed bug problem works because the micro-fine essential oil mist in the air slowly settles and makes contact with the bed bugs. Like most insects, bed bugs have a waxy coating on their bodies and the essential oils break down that waxy coating. Shortly after that the bed bug will die of dehydration.
Added Benefits: Diffusing Purification oil can also prevent and eliminate mold and kill micro-organisms that cause colds and flu.
Essential Oil Sachets for Nesting Bed Bug Eggs
Go after nesting bed bug eggs by making these matress sachets. Of course you will want to use superior quality essential oils, such as Young Living Essential Oils, to get great results. And be sure to read my "Essential Oil Bed Bug Spray Recipe" to address the adult bed bugs.
You will need:
10 drops Palo Santo essential oil
6 drops Eucalyptus Blue essential oil
5 drops Cedarwood essential oil
Baking Soda
Cotton Tea Bags (4-6 per bed)
In a small bowl, combine enough baking soda to fill the desired number of tea bags you wish to use. Add essential oils to the baking soda and mix thoroughly. Fill cotton tea bags with the essential oil / baking soda mixture. Seal tea bags. Place 4-6 tea bags between mattress and box spring.
Additional Tip: Use "Essential Oil Bed Bug Spray Recipe" (below) to address adult bed bugs.
Essential Oil Bed Bug Spray Recipe
Try this all-natural recipe to get rid of those nasty bed bugs! Of course you will want to use superior quality essential oils, such as Young Living Essential Oils, to get great results.
You will need:
4 oz. spray bottle
10 drops Palo Santo essential oil
6 drops Eucalyptus Blue essential oil
5 drops Cedarwood essential oil
distilled water
In the 4 oz. spray bottle filled 7/8 full of water add the essential oils. Shake. Spray on bed, bedroom carpeting being sure to spray around the baseboard well.
Additional Tip: Diffuse Palo Santo, Eucalyptus Blue and Cedarwood in the Essential Oil Diffuser (cold-air / nebulizer type).

Preventing Colds and Flu
I have used essential oils for 20 years to clean my house, I immediately noticed that we weren't getting colds or flu. As a matter of fact we didn't even so much as get the sniffles for 13 years! This I attribute solely to essential oils. This is what I do: in a 14 oz. spray bottle filled 7/8 of the way full I add my Young Living essential oils: 12 drops Thyme, 10 drops Spearmint, 10 drops Orange or Tangerine, 4 drops Rosemary, and sometimes 1-2 drops of Patchouli. This makes a terrific surface spary and air freshener. I even lightly spritz door knobs, light switches, phones, and spritz my bathroom surfaces and air - and just let it air dry. It smells fantastic!
Thieves Household Cleaner as a Laundry Detergent
I have not bought any type of laundry detergent or laundry products for 6 or 7 years now. I use Thieves Household Cleaner in place of laundry detergent. I love it so much that I haven't used anything else since.
Here's how I use it:
In my front loading washer, I put into the detergent dispensor one capful (Tablespoon) of Thieves Household Cleaner - and that's it!
I never use bleach or fabric softener - I don't have to! Beacuse Thieves cleaner is not a soap it doesn't make clothes feel stiff or scratchy. My clothes smell really good too.
I save a lot of money on laundry products by only needing this one product.
Thieves cleaner is an excellent option for those whowant to minimize their exposure to cancer-causing household products and want to have a Green lifestyle.

Natural Sink and Bathtub Cleaner Recipe
This recipe is so simple and you won't have to worry about being exposed to nasty chemicals that make you feel sick. The Young Living essential oils in this recipe are what give it superb bacteria fighting power.
1 cup Baking Soda
20-30 drops Thieves Essential Oil
In a small mixing bowl place baking soda, then add essential oil. Stir well until mixed thoroughly. Pour mixture into a 6 or 8 oz. glass jar with lid or plastic container with lid. Sprinkle mixture into sinks or bathtubs, scrub, rinse.
Home Diffuser Aromatherapy Blend for Thanksgiving
Diffusing essential oils during the winter not only fill the home with a beautiful scent but also helps kill germs - so you feel good emotionally and physically. This warm spicy blend is excellent for diffusing during your Thanksgiving gatherings.
2 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil
1 drop Clove essential oil
3 drops Orange essential oil
This recipe works very nicely in either the Ultrasonic Diffuser or the Home Diffuser (also an ultrasonic type). If you're using the Cold-air Nebulizer Diffuser simply add more drops of the specified essential oils. More on diffusers and diffusing.
Forest Air Freshener Blend to Diffuse
This is a nice blend to make for diffusing during winter months. Mix together in the well of a cold-air nebulizer diffuser:
Spruce - 25 drops
Lavender - 12 drops
Eucalyptus - 12 drops
Cedarwood - 10 drops
Add blend to diffuser and diffuse for a forest fresh scent!
Nail Fungus
Using Young Living's Melrose essential oil blend, apply a couple drops to the location of the nail fungus. Re-apply two to three times a day until fungus is gone.
Aromatherapy Dryer Sheets
Take a dampened washcloth and put 3-5 drops of your favorite Young Living oil on it. Toss washcloth in dryer with laundry - presto - great smelling laundry without harmful chemicals! Good for you, good for the environment and your "Green" home.
